The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie hit theaters this christmas time and I was there day three to watch it in my D-Box seats. I did not particularly like the second Sonic movie and I couldn’t quite put my finger on why until I watched the third, Jim Carrey’s Eggman is unbearable to watch. I liked him in the first one but after going crazy in the second he just doesn’t know how to tone it down. Which is especially a shame for Sonic 3 because the storyline with Shadow and the gang was good but whenever Eggman was on screen it was hard to watch. I really wish that they would give Jim Carrey a script instead of having him do whatever he wants. If you took away all the Eggman scenes Sonic 3 it is the best one yet.
Kenau Reeves did an amazing job as Shadow the Hedgehog and I feel that changing of the Sonic Adventure 2 plot worked for the most part. Obviously as a big Sonic fan I have my gripes about how things were handled but overall I felt that they did a better job then any of the previous titles referencing the games ( although a lot of them felt a little ham-fisted ). Although these movies seem very shallow they are still good fun and this one felt like it actually had a message it was trying to convey. Don’t give up on the Sonic movie franchise if you, like me, had a rough time with 2. Both the Knuckles TV show and Sonic 3 (minus Dr.Eggmen) were really enjoyable to watch.
