Steam Next Fest October 2023 – 7 Demos That I Played –

Updated on November 24th, 2023 at 12:58 pm by Savvy

I have to be honest with you, I downloaded 15 demos. I realized I need to cut myself off because I played theses on the last day of Steam Next Fest so I only had so much time. I got through 7 so here are the 7 I got through.

Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley

I’ve been excited for this game for a long time. Ever since I became a Moomin fan I’ve been waiting for a Moomin video game and Snufkin Melody of Moominvalley is the perfect game to scratch that itch. You play as you probably guessed Snufkin as he returns to Moomin valley. It is a puzzle platformer game where you run around the valley helping the residents. There are also some stealth elements when you are going around vandalizing parks. In the demo, a lot of the puzzles require you to play your harmonica but at different levels. To up your harmonica level you need inspiration which can be found in the bushes around Moonminvalley and by doing side quests. The art style looks gorgeously hand drawn and just like the comics they are inspired from. Looking forward to playing the full release.

Little Goody Two Shoes

A very anime horror RPG with cute girls you can date. You play as Elise who finds a pair of shoes by her cottage and  in order to find out the secret of these shoes she needs to enter into the dark mysterious woods. You run around the village doing little side quests for your neighbors and playing minigames. You also have to make sure you keep Elise fed (and alive). The art style looks like a hand painted fairy tale book. It’s so lovely, I can’t wait to see what spooky art is in store for me once this game gets a little more spooky. I know that there are multiple endings for this game so choice must matter. Can’t say I’m not intrigued.

Europa

Another Puzzle Platformer where you are gliding around this Castle in the Sky-like moon named Europa. You are an android and It seems your goal is to find the secret of Europa by finding journal entries that your maybe grandfather has left for you. The game is very relaxing where you just kind of jet pack around and find orbs to solve puzzles. The atmosphere is a incredible. Full of saturated environments, interesting creatures with ruins that have been retaken over by nature. I will definitely be picking this one up when it releases.

Japanese Drift Master (JDM)

It is what it sounds like a drifting simulator, where you drive around Japan and get points for drifting while listening to phonk music. According to the steam page there is a story “Play through a story about a foreigner who wants to make a name for himself on the Japanese drifting scene. Slide right into the world of speed and precision, where you’ll earn respect by competing for the title of best hashiriya behind the wheel.” Think I might get a racing wheel for this one.

Peripeteia

Is a first and third person stealth game taking place in alt-history cyberpunk Poland. It’s got a very cool aesthetic and an anime protagonist that gives me the creeps. The controls feel a little janky to me. I kept accidentally going from first to third person when I didn’t want to but that might just be a me problem. The atmosphere is cool, you get a lot of neat abilities and there are many different ways you can handle situations. Obligatory quote from the steam page “Have you found yourself hungering for a sense of survival, accomplishment, and player choice long absent from this dark and belied industry? Then consider joining us in the lights of the Eastern Night with Peripeteia”. I look forward to playing the full release.

While we Wait Here

It’s a restaurant management sim while you wait out the end of the world. Can’t say I wasn’t intrigued when I was just running my dinner and then suddenly there was a man in a hazmat suit e in my pantry telling me I should leave. You have dialogue choices that will likely affect the ending since according to the steam page there are multiple. Running the restaurant was actually fun (I’m kind of a sucker for a restaurant sims) and add the of intrigue of mystery it seems like its going to be a real *chefs kiss*.

Garden Life

A first person gardening game, where you are put in charge of a community garden. It’s a very beautiful game with lots of quirky little details and cats you can pet. You can do little jobs for the residents and decorate your little garden however you want. You are not just stuck in one spot though, you can travel around. There is a little cute town where you can buy seeds and decorations. The characters you interact with have beautiful drawn portraits and I’m excited to see more of them when the game releases in full.
