Happy Valentine’s Day!
Error 143 is a free single suitor enemies to lovers dating sim about two hackers. You lose a hacking tournament by a man named Micah Yujin so you hack him leaving him a petty message about being a better hacker. He hacks you back and you two get to talking and over 4 days fall in love. Micah is an acquired taste, he acts like an immature gamer boy trying to rizz you up on discord but to be honest your character isn’t much different. Speaking of your character you get to pick from a list of names that Micah actually says, he is fully voice acted to which is a nice touch. Sadly my name wasn’t on there but them the bricks. On top of spoken name you get to pick your pronouns, username and little image next to name when you IM.
The gameplay consists mostly of you mostly replying to chat DMs and video chatting with Micah. Sometimes you get to play a little hacking mini game that is essentially hangman. You have very little choices to make, mostly it has to do with the tone in which you convey the message. There are 3 different endings: a good, bad and special ending if you complete a mini game perfectly.
I know I talked a little crap about Micah in my first paragraph but the little relationship you two create after just a couple of days is very cute. I’m a sucker for big grand gestures and this man is very extra. The writing and dialogue can come off as cringe but by day 3 I got accustomed to it. This is a dating sim about chronically online people so what do you expect really.
This is a first impression and not a review because the game is not really done, but that’s arguable. The first 4 days are free to play but it’s an extra 5$ if you want a day 5. The story could conclude after day 4 and it wraps its up pretty well however the day 5 DLC ends on a cliffhanger. I’m pretty sure there are plans to add a day 6 but just so you know the game isn’t really done. The DLC does add animated sprites, it’s a little glitchy. I had an issue where my empty chat log would open everytime I clicked my screen ( which for a visual novel you are doing constantly) but that only happened during my second playthrough when I had the animated sprites turned on.
Overall a very cute and short dating sim that is free however I would probably wait until day 6 comes out because if you are anything like me then you kinda want the whole package. Fingers crossed day 6 doesn’t end on another cliffhanger.
