They finally did it. They finally made the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie after years of humming and hawing, and it’s as campy as it should be. It’s a good rendition of the first game with some things added to make the story longer and relate to the newer FNAF titles. It’s not very gorey and they make the animatronics much tamer than they are in the game. There are also very few jump-scares to worry about. This movie was definitely made with children in mind. The plot they came up with as to why Mike (Josh Hutcherson) was working at the pizzeria, felt like a good fit for the themes of FNAF. The way it was shot and the lines that were spoken are very cheesy, but you have to keep in mind that that is what Five Nights at Freddy’s is. The very first Five Nights at Freddy’s game wasn’t about the plot, it was about the gameplay. The crazy plot came later so if they choose to make a sequel I would be excited to see which direction they go.
I liked this movie but this is coming from someone familiar with FNAF. I talked to a few people who knew nothing about the games and I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some of those people say that’s its hard to follow and that its too goofy for them. The plot may be confusing if you don’t know the basic premise of Five Nights at Freddy’s the game. They handle the ghost children in a very artsy way (pun not intended), which can cause some scenes to be a little hard to read. However, I think this film is shot very well. I love a good panning shot, which there was a lot of. The set and the puppets look amazing, and I’m hoping since this is a Universal Studios movie that they will have a Freddy Fazbears Pizza at the next Halloween Horror Nights. I think you are going to like it if you are a fan of FNAF, but if you are not be ready for the camp.
