The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me

I Got That Devil in Me

The Devil in Me is the fourth game in the series and the end to season one. This one is based on the serial killer H.H. Holmes and his ‘murder castle’. A documentary film crew is invited to a modern day replica of Holmes murder hotel. You can probably guess what happens next.

Going into this game I honestly have never heard of H.H. Holmes, apparently he was the “first serial killer” but it’s more like first one to get caught and give the title I’m assuming. The phrase “ The Devil in Me” is something Holmes said before being hung. The in-game copycat killer added his own macabre twist throwing in animatronics with real human body parts graphed on.

If you have never played these types of games it consists of; walking around and picking up clues or objects that may be useful later, making decisions via a conversion wheel and quick time events. There is a lot of ‘watch and see what happens’ but honestly you have more control over the characters personality, actions and fate then most other games.

The five members of the crew all have a light source of some kind and another random object that makes them useful to have around. If they die you lose access to that object as well as certain scenes. The multiplayer modes are back, I would just manually pass the controller instead of having the game tell me to. Once you complete the main story you can access the curator cut which features new scenes from other players perspectives, giving you new choices and decisions. This gives the game much more replay value then a lot of its predecessors.

Out of all the dark pictures games this one twist ending was nothing special. In fact it’s pretty confusing. If you want to know where I personally would rank The Devil in Me out of the other The Dark Picture Anthology games here is my tier list that nobody asked for.
