Palworld: Second Impresssions

So now that I have 100% ( as of April 2024) Palworld, I would like to give my second impressions of it. There is a lot more to it than I initially thought. Until my second playthrough I hadn’t really delved into the survival elements of the game, but I soon learned that in order to complete the main goal I’m going to have to. The main goal of Palworld seems to be defeating all the tower bosses. In order to do that you’re going to need to have the proper gear and the proper pals.

Building a base is important for acquiring materials in order to craft outfits, weapons and consumables. You also have to be equipped to handle different climates. When night falls it gets cold almost anywhere on The Palpagos Islands. You are going to need to be by a fire and or carry a torch. However, in the high level snowy region you’re going to need to have cold protecting armor. Same goes for the desert area. You can acquire schematics for said armor by completing dungeons or defeating boss pals.

Since the map is (in my option) way too big you are going to want to find a pal that you can ride or more importantly fly. In order to do this you are going to need to craft the proper saddle and level up enough in your tech tree to unlock it. The fastest way to level up is collecting 10 of each Pal or running around collecting eggs and hatching them. You can either sell your Pal or use them at your base for manual labor. With your Pals doing all your crafting and mining you can have an efficient base that takes care of itself and gives you all the materials you need. There is a chance that it may get raided but with enough Pals your base should be fine.Another trick is if you place your Palbox anywhere you can fast travel to it. This will allow you to cheese bosses by placing your box near a boss area and unleashing a bunch of Pals.

The tower boss fights are really cool and well animated. It’s a shame that after you complete them all there isn’t any more story content at the moment. After defeating all the towers it seems like the story is supposed to take you to the world tree but at the moment the tree is off-limits. You get a little bit of story through logs you pick up whether that be the castaway log or logs from the tower bosses themselves. Speaking of the tower bosses, I really enjoyed their lore and goons in different areas. I hope that one day once you defeat a tower the goons will have different dialogue about how you killed their boss, because here on the Palpagos Islands all duels are to the death.

While running around you may encounter trainers like in Pokemon but in order to win you have to kill the trainer. There are also castaways around the island’s beaches that will give you free items.

Wildlife Sanctuary

You can actually break the law in Palworld by taking Pals at the wildlife sanctuaries near the edge of the maps, but only if you get caught. It’s also illegal to put a human in a Palball but it is possible. You can even put that person to work at your base. It might be a good idea to steal all the different types of merchants and have them always at your base.

Palworld is a mix of a lot of games, Fortnite, Pokemon, Breath of the Wild, etc. I love the fact that this team took what they loved about those games and mashed it together to make this one and you know what, it works. If you know what you like and don’t think anyone else is going to make it why not make it yourself. I look forward to the official release of this game and I hope it doesn’t stay in early access forever.
