Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time Review

The first major expansion for Disney’s Dreamlight Valley was released at the end of 2023 and the main story came to its conclusion in August 2024. This DLC added a new land to explore, an ancient kingdom lost to time called Eternity Isle. Here you will find Rapunzel, Gaston, EVE, Jafar and finally Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The theme of this DLC was all about using the spark of your imagination to fix this land. Sadly it is not a free DLC, it costs around 30 dollars but on the bright side it is chalk full of content and quests that make it feel worth the price. My one beef with this DLC is the map layout. It is hard to get around the map with its tight corridors and confusing open spaces. When searching for specific items to forage or fish for I had to constantly consult my map to make sure I was in the correct area because even though the fish is found in the forest it’s a specific area in the forest.

This expansion adds new crafting using a new form of crafting called time bending. You get an hourglass staff that allows you to open rifts and pull items out of them to craft with. It’s like a hot or cold mini game having the lines above you turn red if you are in the right spot. You can also build ancient machines to help automate tasks such as cooking and watering. You can also take your hourglass back to Dreamlight valley and find items hidden there. Both Scrooge’s store and Remy’s Restaurant are present in the new Eternity Isle, however they are just a copy and paste from Dreamlight Valley at the present time. So the same people will be in the Valley location that are in the Isle location.

This expansion also adds a new mini game to play called Scramblecoin. A fairly simple board game where you try to collect the most coins on the board before your appointment. You use little models of the villages each with their own bonuses and drawbacks, such as EVE can go anywhere on the board but she can only be played during your second turn. You can play Scramblecoin with any of the villagers, not just the ones on Eternity Isle.

New foods are implemented with the DLC as well. In fact the first thing I noticed when installing the DLC was that my villagers favorite gifts of the day were strange dishes, herbs and fish that I had never seen before. The map is huge and has a plethora of new biomes to explore such as glittering dunes, a new desert biome and wild tangle the new jungle biome. The whole Island is surrounded by these giant steampunk looking robots that make the whole isle look foreboding and mysterious. The island is supposed to be an ancient place that was around long before the forgotten.

Although you do have to pay for this expansion I believe it is worth the money especially if you already are an almost daily player of Dreamlight Valley like I am. It adds so much more content that I am overwhelmed plus you get 5,000 more moonstones to boot. Now that this expansion’s main story is over I look forward to the next one involving Maleficent and Hades.
