Savvy Gaming Networks Video Game Book Club read the novelization of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
If I had not played Odyssey this probably would have gotten a higher score from me but I felt like it was missing the motivation of most of the characters. This is a novelization of the main storyline of Kassandra versus the cult of Kosmos. Kassandra the misthios who was once a Spartan child sent into exile after she defies the priests who wanted to sacrifice her brother. She is paid to assassinate a Spartan General in order to sway the balance of the Peloponnesian war back in favor of Athens. It is this task that leads her to hunt a secret cult who wants to spread chaos into the world of the Greeks in order to gain power, a secret cult who was responsible for her being thrown from a cliff at a young age and the order to sacrifice her baby brother. While Gordon Doherty is a good writer, it is difficult to convey the character development that a video game can in hours of gameplay and side quests within 300 pages of a book. It was good enough to keep my attention but there is so much that happens within Kassandra’s story that is missed although Doherty goes manage to tell well the main plot line of the game. I would only suggest reading this if you have not and will not play the game. If you have already played it, it is disappointing as to what has not been put in the book and if you are going to play it, there are major spoilers which are better experienced during gameplay.Elise (VGBC Host)
