Mail Time Review after 100%

Mail Time is a platforming adventure game where you play as a tiny rookie mail scout on a quest to become a full-fledged mail scout. Your assignment is to deliver a letter to Greg who lives in this small forest town. You will inevitably get side tracked helping the townsfolk deliver letters to each other around the town of Grumblewood Grove. Lots of little trinkets are scattered about and the more trinkets you collect the more badges you earn. The more badges you earn the more upgraded your gliding ability. The more upgraded your gliding ability the farther on the map you can explore. Platforming around Grumblewood is extremely fun, bouncing on mushrooms for extra height, soaring through waterfalls to find hidden caves, it’s all very magical. It feels like playing through a children’s storybook. The art is so cute and you can customize your mail scout 44 million different ways (according to the mail time website)!

There is a quest in this game where a bat with no arms asks you for mushroom samples and with each sample you give them they make you a new mushroom hat. This was the only quest I struggled with because it wouldn’t let me turn the samples into the bat. However they added a patch that lets you turn the samples in via a sign next to the bat that I somehow didn’t notice. Just a quick tip if the same issues happens to you. Also finding Greg early will end the game so make sure you have done all your side quests before approaching Greg. I also noticed one of the achievements for completing a side quest didn’t appear until after I quit the game and was on the main menu screen. So if one achievement isn’t popping up maybe try restarting the game.

Overall this game is a delight.  As a cozy collect-a-thon platformer you will be mainly bopping around collecting items and talking to colorful characters. In fact you will mostly be talking to characters; it’s much more of a visual novel with light platforming. It’s also a fairly quick game you can finish in an afternoon. If you’re looking for a nice quick, relaxing cottage core game to play this weekend I think you just found it (although maybe buy it on sale). It’s currently out on Steam and Switch with plans to come out on Playstation 4 and 5 in the future.
