Kingdom Hearts Missing Link is Cancelled and I am Upset

According to the official Kingdom Hearts website the development team has decided to cancel Kingdom Hearts Missing Link. This was going to be a 3D phone game using GPS tracking. Not much was known about the game; it was announced during Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary in 2022 and beta tests (that I wasn’t able to get into) happened in 2023 and 2024. I remember seeing the trailer for it and thinking it looks cooler than Kingdom Hearts previous mobile title Unchained/Union/Dark Road χ (which I did play a lot of and managed to play the beta of back in the day (humble brag) ). Sadly Unchained/Union/Dark Road χ is also unplayable since Square Enix ended its service back in 2021.

The Official announcement on the website

As of now there is no Kingdom Hearts mobile app to tie us over before the release of Kingdom Hearts IV. The team working on Missing link expresses their apologies and states

“We determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development.”

Not that it ever stopped them before with the previously mentioned Unchained/Union/Dark Road χ ending 7 years after its release. They end the message saying to keep an eye out for further updates since they are hard at work on Kingdom Hearts IV. We have been waiting for an update for quite a while now and with summer showcases coming up I hope we get more information or even better a possible release date. I was looking forward to this phone game, even though I’m not a phone game kinda girl. I was hoping it would be my new Pokemon Go but I’m not surprised to be let down by Square Enix yet again.
